In the vast landscape of social media, where millions vie for attention, one man’s journey stands out as a testament to perseverance, creativity, and the power of strategic partnerships. Meet Terence Ooi, a content creator whose story with Involve Asia showcases the highs and lows of navigating the digital landscape.
Terence’s venture into content creation began after a successful career in advertising. “I spent many years with an international advertising agency,” Terence reveals. “But in 2014, I decided to step away from that world.”
However, rather than retiring into obscurity, Terence found himself drawn to digital content creation.
From Culinary Adventures to Global Wanderlust
Initially, Terence treated the platform as a casual outlet for sharing personal content, dabbling in posts about his travels and culinary adventures. However, fate intervened when one particular post gained unexpected traction. “It’s actually quite funny,” Terence chuckles. “It was a picture of cockles. I guess people in Malaysia have a thing for cockles because that post really took off.” Encouraged by this newfound attention, Terence began to take his content creation endeavours more seriously.
As he delved deeper into the world of social media, Terence found himself drawn to two key passions: travel and food. “Those were the cornerstones of my content,” he explains. “I was eager to share my experiences with others, to inspire them to explore new destinations and savour unique culinary delights.”
Over time, as Terence found himself with more opportunities to travel, he made the decision to shift his lens primarily towards showcasing the wonders of the world and sharing simple or interesting recipes when he cooks.
Reflecting on his travel experiences, Terence shares a memorable journey he embarked on to the north-west of Thailand. “End of last year, I took a 10-day road trip,” he recounts. “Normally, people will go to Chiang Mai and then stay there, maybe go up to Chiang Rai. But I decided to rent a car and went on the Mae Hong Son loop.”
The Game-Changer in Content Monetisation
As Terence delved deeper into the world of content creation, he was presented with the opportunity to expand his reach and monetise his efforts last year. He then discovered Involve Asia, an affiliate marketing platform offering a bridge between content creators and advertisers.

However, with determination and the assistance of a key account manager, he overcame these obstacles and found his footing within the platform.” The online tutorials were a good start, but having a key account manager was a game changer,” Terence acknowledges.
Terence highlights some of the platform’s standout features, particularly its user-friendly app and deep linking capabilities. “The app allows you to easily create a link to share with your audience about a brand’s offer or promotion,” he explains.
Crafting Quality Content
With Involve Asia’s support, Terence began to uncover the potential of affiliate marketing. “It wasn’t just about slapping links everywhere,” he explains. “I quickly realised the importance of tailoring content to my audience’s interests.”

You have to stay ahead of the curve,” he advises.

Through strategic collaboration and quality content creation, Terence has not only expanded his digital footprint but also generated tangible revenue streams.
Looking Ahead: Terence’s Vision for Meaningful Content
Reflecting on his path, he acknowledges the challenges faced and the lessons gleaned along the way. “Navigating the digital landscape wasn’t easy,” Terence recalls. “But every obstacle became an opportunity for growth.”
He emphasises the importance of resourcefulness and seeking guidance when needed, stating, “You really need to focus and find ways to do it and to learn from there. Ask around, talk to those with experience, and learn from them.”
Regarding his future collaboration with Involve Asia, Terence remains open to possibilities. “I haven’t thought much about it,” he admits. “But maybe when I retire from my full-time job, I’ll seriously consider this influencer marketing gig.”
Terence emphasises the importance of crafting meaningful content, highlighting that quality information matters more than just aesthetics. He believes in providing valuable information to his audience, prioritising substance over style.
