Determine Your Niche and Audience

Discover the niche that aligns with your passion and resonates with your audience, making them feel understood and catered to.

Once you have chosen your niche, focus on that as you promote products and services to your followers, ensuring you provide them with what they need.

A niche is a specific topic or area of interest that you focus on to promote products and services that you are passionate about and resonate with your audience.

For example, if you love to talk about travel, your niche could be solo, family, and budget travel.By selecting a niche in affiliate marketing, you will get

  • Low competition in search engine results (including on social media platforms).
  • With low competition, sales and conversions will grow, leading to earning more commissions.
  • Be one of the most reliable sources followers search for.
  • Gives you more opportunities to optimise your strategy and increase growth.

To select a niche, here are some criteria to take into consideration:

  • Demographics – referring to age, gender, profession, and income level
  • Geographics – where followers stay and hang out in a city, neighbourhood, city or country
  • What customers often buy to fulfil their needs
  • How much customers are willing to spend on budget
  • How good are the products and services, in terms of quality, before customers decide to make purchases

You can search and choose a specific niche you would like to focus on by searching on Google or other search engines, forums (such as Reddit and Quora), and social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube).

Discover the top niches you can promote easily and earn commissions from your favourite brands.

Here are further details on how to pick your niche in affiliate marketing.

Buyer Persona

Creating buyer personas empowers you to understand your audience better, making you feel capable of delivering the right content to the right people at the right time.

Customer personas provide a guideline for creating targeted, specific content for your followers.

Before creating your buyer personas based on your chosen niche, you need to think about the following questions:

  • What gender do they identify as?
  • What level of education do they have?
  • Do they have children?
  • What is their marital status?
  • Where do they live?
  • What is their income?
  • Which social media platforms do they use?
  • How often do they use social media?
  • What do they use social media for (eg. entertainment, information)?
  • When are they most active on social media?
  • What do they dislike?
  • What challenges are they struggling with?
  • What questions do they ask when looking for solutions to these challenges?
  • How can you help?

Goals**

Interests

  • What goals are they trying to achieve?
  • What barriers are stopping them from achieving these goals?
  • What skills do they need to achieve their goals?
  • Why are these goals important to them?
  • What are their hobbies?
  • How do they keep themselves motivated?
  • What makes them excited?

*Note: Behaviour can also be based on buyers’ engagement with e-commerce platforms.
