Involve Glossary

Restricted Traffic Sources

TL;DRRestricted traffic sources are channels or methods an advertiser does not allow for promoting their offer. Common examples include bidding on the brand’s name in paid search, incentivized traffic, or certain types of content sites. On Involve Asia, restricted traffic sources are listed in each offer’s T&Cs, so publishers know upfront which channels are off-limits before they apply.

What Are Restricted Traffic Sources?

Not every promotion method works for every brand. A restricted traffic source is a channel, platform, or technique that an advertiser specifically excludes from their affiliate program.

Common restrictions include bidding on the advertiser’s brand name or trademarked terms in paid search ads, sending incentivised traffic where users are rewarded just for clicking, and promoting through certain content categories that don’t match the brand’s image. Some advertisers also restrict specific countries, app stores, or social platforms.

These restrictions exist to protect the advertiser’s existing marketing efforts, pricing, and brand image. For example, if a publisher bids on the brand’s own name, they may simply be taking credit for traffic the brand was already going to get for free.

Restricted Traffic Sources on Involve Asia

Each offer on Involve Asia has its own T&Cs, which can include a list of restricted traffic sources specific to that advertiser. Publishers can review these before applying, so there are no surprises after they start promoting.

When applying for an offer, publishers select the property they intend to promote on. Matching the right property to an offer’s allowed traffic sources is part of staying compliant and keeping access to that offer.
