Region Lock
TL;DR — Region lock restricts an affiliate offer to users from a specific country, so clicks from outside that region don’t convert and may land on an error page instead. It protects advertisers from out-of-region traffic that can’t result in a valid sale. On Involve Asia, region lock is indicated on the offer page, so publishers can check before promoting whether their audience’s location is compatible.
What Is Region Lock?
Region lock is a technical restriction on an affiliate offer that limits valid traffic to users from one or more specific countries. When a user from an excluded country clicks a region-locked affiliate link, they are typically redirected to an error page rather than the advertiser’s site, and no conversion can be recorded.
Advertisers apply region locks for several reasons. Their product may only be available for delivery or purchase in certain markets. Their pricing, currency, or promotional terms may differ by country. Or their affiliate program may be specifically designed to drive traffic from one market, making out-of-region clicks irrelevant or misleading for their reporting.
For publishers, a region-locked offer that doesn’t match their audience’s location is effectively unpromotable to that audience. Clicks will be generated, but no commission will be earned, since the referred users can’t complete the purchase within the allowed region.
Region Lock on Involve Asia
Involve Asia also refers to region lock as Geo-Lock. It is indicated on each offer’s description page in the Advertiser Directory, alongside the track type and other offer details.
Filtering the Advertiser Directory by campaign country before applying to an offer is the simplest way to avoid this mismatch.
